仔细分析万锦市和约克区的市政选举 (五)

 

 

万锦市第五选区的现任议员Colin Campbell今年退休。这意味着将有一位“新”市议员产生，而且该席位谁都有可能夺取。该区共有13名候选人，是万锦市所有选区里候选人最多的区。候选人包括：Scott Au，Ashok Bangia，Tommy Chan，Compass Chung，Andrew Keyes，Marlene Mogado，Rajeev Narang，Sean O'Leary，Mo Shakir，Sri Sivasubramaniam，Jeremiah Vijeyaratnam，Fred K.Wong和Grace Woo。

The incumbent councillor from Ward#5 (Colin Campbell) is retiring. This means that there will be a “new” councillor and the race is wide open. There are 13 candidates in this contest, making it the largest contingent in all wards. The candidates are: Scott Au, Ashok Bangia, Tommy Chan, Compass Chung, Andrew Keyes, Marlene Mogado, Rajeev Narang,  Sean O'Leary, Mo Shakir, Sri Sivasubramaniam, Jeremiah Vijeyaratnam, Fred K. Wong, and Grace Woo.

 

13人中只有Compass Chung参加了2014年的竞选。 那年Chung的得票排名为第三，只有855票，而Colin Campbell得了3,527票。其他12位候选人全部是新人。与第三选区一样，我们无法预测谁将获胜。

Out of these, only one candidate ran in this ward last time in 2014 (Compass Chung). Chung came a distant third (855 to 3527 votes for the winner Colin Campbell). The other candidates are rookies in municipal elections. As with Ward#3, it is impossible to predict who will be elected here.

 

13名候选人当中有三人具有一定的知名度和支持者。 Scott Au是一名亲自由党的律师。Andrew Keyes今年曾在安省保守党Unionville选区与彭锦威争夺提名。Compass Chung因2014年参加选举而有知名度。对于其他候选人来说，他们必须依靠家人和朋友。到目前为止，我们还没有看到他们为拉票而设计的网站和组织拉票活动。

There are only three candidates with some level of name recognition and support. Scott Au is a lawyer associated with the Liberal Party. Andrew Keyes was one of the nominees for the Ontario PC party candidacy running against Billy Pang in the Unionville riding and lost this year. Compass Chung can count on name recognition from his participation in the election in 2014. For the others, they must count on family and friends. So far, there are no elaborate web sites and/or campaign activity from them.

 

万锦市第六选区今年有5名候选人。他们是：Victor Chan，杨绮清，Arif Mahmood，Gin Siow和王翔。现任市议员杨绮清在2014年的第一次问鼎市议员时以1,683票对241票的优势击败了刘秉纯医生。Gin Siow曾在2014年参选。其他三人都是第一次参选。

 There are 5 candidates in Ward#6. They are: Victor Chan, Amanda Yeung Collucci,  Arif Mahmood, Gin Siow, and Shawn Wang. The incumbent Amanda defeated Doctor Benson Lau by 241 votes in her first try (1683 votes) at the post in 2014. Gin Siow is the only other candidate who ran in 2014. Rookie candidates make up the rest of the field.

 

最近，杨绮清成了新闻人物。她在今年安省大选、自由党Unionville选区的提名中击败孙晓明，但在安省大选中惹了一堆是非。安省大选期间，杨绮清的广告牌没有清楚的标明自己是代表自由党出征，并辩解自己的的着装和广告牌背景的“红色”足以表明自己是自由党。许多选民对此举感到困惑，并怀疑她这么做是为了与不受欢迎的安省自由党保持距离。 结果杨绮清在安省大选中只得了8,000多票，远远低于代表保守党参选，并以28,000多票当选为保守党省议员的彭锦威。

Recently, Amanda was in the news. After defeating Sophia Sun in the nomination for the Ontario Liberal Party (PLO) candidacy for Unionville riding, she was involved in a controversy during the Ontario provincial election campaign. Amanda chose not to display her Liberal Party affiliation prominently in here signs and literature, claiming that the colour of her dress and the “red” background on the materials are clear indicators as such. Many citizens were confused by this move and suspected her motives for distancing herself from the unpopular party. Amanda lost to Billy Pang (Provincial Member of Parliament now) by a huge margin (28000+ votes to 8000+ votes).

Gin Siow 2014年得票1000，排名第四。他与加拿大华人保守党协会（CCCA）关系紧密将给他一些帮助和知名度。

Gin Siow came in fourth place last time at close to 1000 votes. His long time association with the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association (CCCA) will provide him with connections and name recognition in the Chinese community.

王翔自2015年以来一直是联邦保守党Unionville选区议员Saroya的助手。王将受益于Saroya的关系网，并从中国大陆移民那里获得选票。

Shawn Wang is assistant for Unionville riding Federal MP Boy Saroya since 2015. Wang will benefit from Saroya's connections and pick up votes from Mainland Chinese Canadians.

许多人认为杨绮清因为在不久前的安省大选时隐瞒自己是自由党的身份将消弱她在市议员选举中的竞争力。如果她不努力拉票，她的市议员位置将被另一位候选人取代。

Amanda's position is seen by many as weakened by her decision to run in the recent provincial election while concealing her party affiliation. Unless she runs an intensive and efficient campaign, she can be replaced by another candidate.
