从敬仰到幻灭：重罪犯川普如何粉碎我对美国民主的信任（观点，中英对照）

在我人生的大部分旅程当中，美国一直是我心中的民主灯塔，也是我在逃离专制政权时心中最向往的地方。曾亲眼目睹了当权者是如何残酷剥夺并压制民众呐喊之暴行的我，在中国政权残酷镇压了那些向往民主追求自由的学生的天安门事件爆发之后，逃往北美，相信自己已彻底逃离了暴力政权。

For much of my life, America stood as a beacon of democracy—an ideal I clung to as I escaped the suffocating grip of authoritarian rule. I had seen firsthand what happens when a government silences its people. After the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, when the Chinese regime crushed students who dared to dream of democracy, I fled to North America, believing I was leaving tyranny behind.

来定居加拿大后，我依然对美国的民主精神心怀敬仰。那高举火炬的自由女神之像，巍然屹立，象征着我所渴望的一切——自由、公正，以及建立在民主原则之上的一切。我深信不疑，美国将永远是民主的灯塔，一个维护民主规范、尊重社会制度，并信奉对其公民和盟友承诺的国家。

Settling in Canada, I still looked to America with admiration. The Statue of Liberty, standing tall with her torch raised high, symbolized everything I longed for—freedom, fairness, and a system built on democratic principles. I believed, with unwavering certainty, that the United States would always stand as a pillar of democracy, a nation that upheld democratic norms, respected its institutions, and honored its commitments to both its people and its allies.

但如今，对美国民主精神的向往，在川普击败哈里斯再次当选美国总体后已遭到严重质疑，美国也不再是我曾经敬仰的民主国家。

But today, that belief is shattered. With Donald Trump’s return to power after defeating Kamala Harris, America no longer resembles the democracy I once revered.

川普对民主规范的公然蔑视，对新闻自由、司法体系和选举制度的攻击，侵蚀着美国社会制度的根基。他不懈鼓吹“选举被窃”的谎言，不仅破坏人们对民主程序的信任，还制造社会混乱，加深社会分裂。上任后，他迅速废除了多元、公平和包容（DEI）政策，攻击本应促进公平与机会的主张，进一步撕裂社会。曾让美国成为全球民主标志的核心原则，如今正遭到这个国家的选民再次推上权力巅峰的人的蹂躏。

Trump's blatant disregard for democratic norms—his attacks on the press, the judiciary, and the electoral system—erodes the very foundations of governance. His relentless claims of a "stolen election" have poisoned trust in the democratic process, sowing chaos and deepening divisions. Upon taking office, he swiftly dismantled Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, further widening societal fractures and abandoning efforts to promote fairness and opportunity. The very principles that made America a model for the world are now being trampled upon by the very man its citizens have chosen to lead them.

此外，川普不仅仅在美国境内施展淫威，就连美国最忠实的盟友之国加拿大也不放过。他肆无忌惮的经济民族主义将长期的友谊变成了经济战场。他威胁的施加的关税的贸易政策将扰乱加国产业，削弱GDP，并使成千上万的加拿大人面临失业。曾在合作贸易体系下蓬勃发展的企业，如今将面临成本上升和市场动荡的危机。

Moreover, Trump’s tyranny extends beyond America’s borders—it reaches Canada, its most loyal ally. His reckless economic nationalism has turned a long-standing friendship into an economic battleground. The tariffs and trade policies he threatened to impose would disrupt our industries, shrink GDP, and put thousands of Canadian jobs at risk. Businesses that once thrived under a cooperative trade system would face rising costs and instability.  

除了滥用经济政策制裁盟友，他还给全球各个角落带来灾难。他撤回美国的对外援助，使无数生命陷入危机。从苏丹到泰国，再到乌克兰，有多少在贫困和战争中苦苦挣扎的家庭失去了赖以生存的基本物资来源。难民、病患和贫困者被彻底抛弃，而曾给他们带来一线希望的美国，如今却将他们狠狠甩开。

Beyond economic betrayal, the consequences of his leadership ripple across the globe. His withdrawal of foreign aid has left countless lives in peril. Across the world, from Sudan to Thailand to Ukraine, families struggling to survive poverty and war are left without essential supplies. Refugees, the sick, and the impoverished are abandoned as America, once their last hope, turns its back.

这一现实让我不得不直面一个残酷的真相：我曾敬仰的民主制度正陷入其最黑暗的时刻。曾经象征正义、引领全球民主价值观的美国，如今在一位公然无视其基本原则的专制独裁者掌控下，正摇摇欲坠，濒临混乱。对于曾将美国视为希望灯塔的人而言，看到曾让我们如此向往的民主竟如此脆弱，无疑是一场痛苦的幻灭，是在残酷现实面前的当头棒喝。捍卫民主之战并未在天安门广场画上句号，但在川普的统治下，它比以往任何时候都更加岌岌可危。

This experience has forced me to confront a harsh reality: the democracy I once revered has plunged into one of its darkest moments. Once a symbol of justice and a global leader in democratic values, the United States now teeters on the edge of chaos under a leader who brazenly disregards its most fundamental principles. For those of us who once looked to America as a beacon of hope, this is a moment of reckoning—a painful disillusionment that exposes the fragility of the ideals that once drew us to this nation. The fight for democracy did not end in Tiananmen Square, but under Trump’s rule, it has become more precarious than ever.
